Camera Futura

Pre-enacting a Post-Gravity Future, by Sascha Pohflepp

27 Apr 2012
1 Jul 2012

In the abundance of energy that is the New Order, we will no longer be bound by the force of gravity that is keeping us to the surface of the planet. We will be floating around freely, suspended by powerful magnetic fields or far away from Earth in the electric sunlight of a rotating space colony. Inspired by an experiment that NASA conducted in 1968, Camera Futura will be using a simple anti gravity device to briefly launch our bodies into a weightless world. By taking photos we will pre-enact this future which will produce the fantastic infrastructure to imagine ourselves in it.

New Order series

Camera Futura is part of the fifth exhibition in the New Order series, which explore a world in which energy has become a fundamental principle of our society. Five consecutive solo shows feature new works by Dutch and international artists, designers and architects, each responding to various elements of society - such as politics, economy, health, food and experience - which together combine to outline a complete future world.
