Speakers
Dan Hassler-Forest
It's not hard to think of reasons for why Dan is one of UvA's most appreciated teachers. His research interests seem to span the whole of modern popular culture, and if you thought philosophy or theory was boring, try it with a splash of Game of Thrones or your favorite superheroes. We couldn't think of a better way to introduce him to you, than by offering him 20 slides.
Roeland van Doorn
With a wireless video receiver, Roeland collected images from door camera's, baby monitors and surveillance camera's in a neighborhood of Breda. Er gaat niets gebeuren (Nothing will happen) is a video installation showing this footage.
Frank Schallmaier
For about 10 years, Frank has been collecting pictures from gay social media platforms. Two of his collections, dicks with a product, and flashlight-reflections, are on show at Faceless. Find out more tonight.
Caroline de Vries (Bureau Brandeis)
A coalition of organizations and civilians has sued the Dutch government for using intelligence illegally obtained by the NSA. Caroline works for the law firm handling the case and will explain the ins and outs.
Roald de Boer
As an editorial assistant at the Volkskrant, Roald the Boer started making collages, and copied and distributed them to friends. His voyeuristic Zine now only exists on the internet.
Gerda Postma
Gerda's work can be read as an ongoing investigation into art in the age of its technological reproducibility. She creates installations that combine fashion, sculpture, sound and photography, and explore expression
Kromkommer
Too big, too lopsided, too fat... too bad? Not according to the three women of Kromkommer. Chantal, Jente and Lisanne turn vegetables that would be thrown out simply for deviating from the norm, into delicious products.
Laura Bolscher
Laura studied Fine Arts in Groningen. She uses all materials and media for her work, and she makes everything - except paintings. At the moment she is working on a float with which she is participating in the King's Day parade in a small village in Friesland.
Sara Bjarland
In her work, Sara plays with the delineated space we've assigned nature in modern life. Bees become objects, and exhibition cases no longer house exotic butterflies but collected pieces of plastic.
De Dakdokters
Imagine looking down on the city of Amsterdam and discovering a green rooftop landscape... De Dakdokters (The Roof Doctors) are experts in green roofs, rooftop gardens and durable roofing. It's their dream to make city roofs more healthy, sustainable and livable.
Remko Siemerink
During Museumnacht, Remko spent 24 hours of Timebank-cash and had 20 people work for him. The result: a 24 hour artwork. (Timebank is a community-tool that enables transactions based on an exchange of time rather than money.)
Bogomir Doringer
After 9/11, the hidden face became increasingly prevalent in mainstream pop- and image culture. Bogomir's fascination for this phenomenon resulted in the exhibition Faceless. 100+ artworks from artists and fashion designers are on show at Mediamatic from Janaury 26 - April 13.
