Theme of the group exhibition in general is the search for what is 'real'? The exhibition will be held in a protected Natura 2000 area, but the way the area is preserved and protected by humans can be questioned: is this really a natural environment? The artists participating in this exhibition are asked to approach this theme.
The work of Edwin Stolk consists out of creating situations: to connect with a certain surrounding and to look what are the conditions of this area. With the situation THE HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON he wants to create a kind of 'temporary autonomous zone' where rules and regulations by present institutions in charge are not valid or at least to push the borders a little, because he always asks himself the question "WHO wants me to believe WHAT when it comes to reality". "Is reality also the situation before the ordered, arranged, bordered daily reality?"
