Caro Verbeek (1980) is an art historian, author and researcher with a focus on the lower senses (smell, taste, touch). She did an MA in Olfactory art and an MA in Tactile art at the University of Amsterdam and is currently a PhD Candidate at VU University.

Her aim is to (re)construct a more sensory history of art by collecting and creating historical scents and tactile impressions for educational purposes (both for adults and children). She teaches the preliminary course ‘The Other Senses’ at the Royal Academy of Arts (The Hague) and creates olfactory tours for museums, such as the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam Museum and the Biblical Museum.

She has published on kinaesthesia, olfactory and tactile art (Senses & Society, Olfactoryart.net, Master Drawings, Karakter, 8weekly), and has lectured widely on these subjects (CAA New York, Art Laboratory Berlin, ACME Art Space London, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Erasmus University Rotterdam, VU University, Concordia University of Montreal).
