For DREAM AMSTERDAM 2008, Ikeda will use pure light as the material for his interventions in various secret locations across Amsterdam. Intensely bright light installations will appear mysteriously, connecting a constellation of points across the cityscape. The energy used for the light installations is generated from sustainable, recycled resources. The site-specific art projects can be viewed from June 6 until June 21, 2008 in the evening hours.

On June 6, 2008 Paradiso and Dream Amsterdam Foundation are organizing the DREAM AMSTERDAM 2008 - OPENING EVENT.

The evening starts with a speciaal live concert and performance by Ryoji Ikeda with his latest audio visual work "test pattern": Dutch premiere, produced by UK arts production company Forma. Through a real-time computer programme, test pattern converts Ikeda's audio signal patterns into tightly synchronized barcode patterns on screen.

"test pattern" is the third audiovisual concert in Ikeda's datamatics series' an art project that explores the potential to perceive the invisible multi-substance of data that permeates our world. The velocity of the moving images is ultra-fast, some hundreds of frames per second, so that the work provides a performance test for the audio and visual devices, as well as a response test for the audience's perceptions.
