Canadian Art Video & Live Performance - Evening 3 On this evening, July 4 1985, six Canadian art videos were shown.

RANDY LAKE
Aeroglyphics
11 min. 1983

This tape is an intense, lively celebration of movement, music and colour; a true synthesis of the arts of video and mime. Man's relationship to technology is sketched in three motifs. The message is a dire warming of tragic lox. Featured are mime artists Kari Margolis and Tony Brown.

SARE DIAMOND
Horoica: definitions
35.30 min. 1984

Heroics is Diamonds attempts to examine the heroism of women through a montage of still photographs and visuals intercut with excerpts from about thirty women's stories about their sense of personal power and endurance. The tape was motivated by Diamond's concern that heroism is male-defined and that (male) language selects experiences and events within the context of patriarchal definitions of courage.

ELIZABETH VANDER ZAAG
Through the holes
3 min. 1981

A three minute video graphic tape concerning the content of the video screen. The freedom, resulting from the discovery that the holes in the screen have a life of their own beyond the often depicted soap opera life, is called up in the sound track, which is voice processed through a digital delay.

PAUL WONG
Prime cuts
20 min. 1981

Wong has mined the images of pop culture... the images are immediately identifiable as mass media icons, but Wong's landscape of models is almost disturbing in its banal perfection. No real story develops, and the characters are seen in a contextual void; this is the endless summer as embodied in our culture's marketing ideals.

CORNELIA WIJNGAARDEN
Starling man
8 min. 1982

This tape identifies a specific male need to dominate nature. From the distrust of natural events comes a bureaucracy that poisons food and thought. From the merest problem of starlings shitting on cars evolve centinent wide solutions such as cutting down trees and scattering contraceptive chemicals. However, faced with the frustrations of the task of conquering nature, this tape shows the coe of man to be sensual and vulnerable when faced with the need for love.

KATE CRAIG
Delicate issue
12 min. 1979

An uncompromising micro-examination of the artist's body with the voice asking such questions as 'what is the dividing line between the public and private?' It examines the fine layer of tissue between personal and private exposure.
