You are invited to This happened Rotterdam - harbour edition at the Future Flux Festival! On Friday 3rd June 2016 we offer you a scenic boat trip through the harbour to the Onderzeebootloods. At this former submarine hangar you will find This happened talks to enjoy and discuss, but also installations (by former THRTM speakers!), performances and music as part of the festival.
We have selected four compelling speakers for the evening and are proud to present you the first two:
Pim Schachtschabel (Sherlocked) - Escape room
Have you ever tried breaking out of an escape room? If so, you will know how dynamic and intense it can be. If designed right there is order in the chaos and the sequence of puzzles are challenging but doable. But how do you design it? How do you involve players into the created story? Are there ever great ideas that turn out to work terribly?
Architect and behavioural designer Pim Schachtschabel has been designing immersive experiences at Sherlocked (Amsterdam) for a few years now and will share the design process behind one of their escape rooms.
Niki Smit - DEEP
How do you create a meditative experience focussed on breathing? And can you be sure that it has real effects on the player? DEEP is a meditative virtual reality experience driven by a custom breathing controller, currently being developed by game designers Owen Harris (Ireland) and Niki Smit (Netherlands). Having started as a personal tool for Owen to combat feelings of anxiety, together with Niki, DEEP is on a journey exploring how to design for virtual reality, while also being involved in contributing to scientific research regarding anxiety. At This Happened Niki will talk about the road travelled thus far.
We will announce the other two speakers soon. Follow us on facebook or twitter and be the first to know.
