After the Great Hanshin Awji Earthquake Tomoko Sugiyama began a series in which she painted 1000 houses, each with a single brush stroke. She marks this work as a moment of renewed attachment to the city of Kobe. Today her public works appear throughout the city. They represent a quiet and earnest attachment to this place.
