Genuine Rio institution. Waiters wear black ties and serve some of the city's best basic food, day and night (try the lombinho canadense com abacaxi e queijo. My favourite) Any day of hte week, Cervantes offers at least 29 different sandwiches, all of them garnished with the house specialty: abacaxi or pineapple. You can order a sandwich without abacaxi, but a note on the menu cautions that "taking it off will NOT change the price." But Cervantes doesn't just draw night owls: it's busy day and night. This popular eatery sells 800 sandwiches on a weekday, 1,200 on a Saturday or Sunday, and it only seats 75. Cervantes is for sure one of the best bargains in Rio. A steak sandwich (vegans beware) will set you back a whopping 10 Brazilian reals, or about $5. Add fries and you're up to $5.75.
