A little further in Zaandijk lies the Zaanse Schans, a new attraction where traditional houses, windmills and old customs are presented. Walking past the mills, seeing the traditional way of cheese making and getting your wooden shoes cut in the right size, you can almost picture yourself in the 17th or 18th Century. Bus 93 takes you to the east side of Twiske.

The second countryside day trip leads to nature reserve Twiske. On this ancient ground present-day activities are being organised: there are trails for horseback riding, biking, roller skating and rowing. Outside the recreational you will find many more noticeable traces of the old landscape.
