Erdogan is what we can call a ‘ political animal’ ; he’s the mayor of Istanbul since 2003, the 25th prime minister of Turkey AND one of the leaders of the AK-Party. During the elections in 2003, the first time the party enjoyed, the AK-Party got 34,2 % of the votes. Sounds democratic, so why demonstrate? The party has a focus on Islamic traditions.From this point of view the selling of alcohol got restricted, and other measures were taken. This doesn’t mean that the protestesters raising their voices because they are alcoholics, but to protect one of the main basics of democracy; secularization , what means that religion and politics are separated.
