Workshop:

Workshop Pixel-Art for Games

(Or just for fun)!

24 Mar 2011
24 Mar 2011

In this workshop you will learn how to make a pixelated avatar of yourself or your grandmother. Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of raster graphics software, where images are edited on the pixel level. Graphics in most old (or relatively limited) computer and video games, graphing calculator games, and many mobile phone games are mostly pixel art.

What?

With the use of a raster graphics editor (Pixen for Mac OSX users and GraphicsGale for Window users) and the guidance of Paul Veer, you will design your own pixelated avatar or image. For those who are quick, and if there's time left, you can take it a step further and animate your little avatar. Here you can read more about the technique, also known as 'Spriting'.

Who?

Paul Veer (also known as Pietepiet) makes graphics for 2D video- and computer games. When he's not making his own games, he does graphics for other people's games. Big projects he has worked on:

  • Vlambeer | Super Crate Box - PC
  • Wayforward Technologies | Batman: The Brave and the Bold - Nintendo DS
  • Goodbye Galaxy Games | Flipper - Nintendo DSiWare | Flipper 2 - Nintendo DSiWare
