Long lasting and sustainable products

High Fashion Low Countries is a vivid example of how relevant entities and cutting-edge designers from Belgium and The Netherlands are taking note of changing times, realizing that cultural entities, not just businesses, need to think broadly and imaginatively to ensure their continuing excellence and long-term success.

Sustainable development, craftsmanship, the use of alternative materials and a less-seasonal view on fashion have gained attention amongst entrepreneurs and emerging designers in both countries. The new luxury market demands for long lasting and sustainable products that can be created through reinventing traditional crafts, researching on alternative materials and innovating with the latest technologies.

Search for alternatives

This project is about the development of new ideas within fashion design and the importance of collaboration. We have come to identify and celebrate alluring and intriguing pieces result of exquisite craftsmanship and innovative techniques created by six young promising designers eager to break the mold and search for alternatives that fit best the coming times in fashion design.

Each designer worked on a capsule collection of three looks that will be presented in an upcoming exhibition in Brussels from October 12th to 26th 2012. One look out of each collection is presented here in exclusive at De Brakke Grond during Amsterdam Fashion Week.

The project is curated by Javier Barcala (The Believers + La Fortuna Studio) and Eve-Marie Kuijstermans. The Dutch designers will be Jantine van Peski, Pauline van Dongen and Natalie de Koning. The Belgian designers are Lena Lumelsky, Céline de Schepper and Katrien van Hecke.
