Ignite
Ignite is run by locals, for locals. Fast-paced and merciless, speakers get five minutes to present, making use of twenty slides that auto-advance every fifteen seconds. All presentations are given in English.
Speakers
Wouter Klein Velderman
Wouter works as an artist (sculptures and installations), sculpture teachter (Gerrit Rietveld Academie) and curator (for instance the monumental 2010 Beeld Hal Werk show in Amsterdam Noord). Find out about his most recent projects.
Elza Jo
Since her graduation from the KABK, Elza Jo's photographs have featured in magazines such as Dazed & Confused, NYLON, Vice and I Love Fake. Her autonomous work has been exhibited in the Netherlands and abroad. Currently her latest stop motion film Matadora, alongside a number of photos and photo collages, is on display at Cokkie Snoei in Rotterdam.
Thom de Jager
Reaching for natural form through the digital dimension. By working impulsively with new media, Thom tries to get expressive imagery out of the machine.
Marieke Berghuis
Marieke graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie last year. Tonight she'll talk about her research into the space between the world of signs/writing and the material world, and the relationship between image and text.
Tobias
In the hope of uncovering the mystery of the grilled cheese sandwich, Tobias and a group of food lovers are building a tosti factory... from scratch! On about 80m2 at Mediamatic Fabriek they'll be raising a pig (ham), keeping a cow (cheese), and harvesting wheat (bread). Read their project proposal here.
Lex Wenneker
Find out how a Citroen HY and an in-need-of-restauration LaMarzocco Linea (that's an espresso machine) lead to a pop-up coffee truck.
Harald Ulriksen
In 2012 Harald ran 3700km in 65 days through Chile, and 1000km through the UK to raise money and awareness for cancer. Who better to talk about perseverance and mindfulness than him?
Michael Condon
Michael runs Pop-up Connection, an online platform that connects makers and locations.
Marieke Hart
Marieke is co-owner of Thuisafgehaald, a virtual cooking platform for sharing meals. She believes in a sharing economy and social entrepreneurship, and will talk about the thoughts behind her organisation and the power of social marketing.
Marieke Plasier
Three years ago Marieke started photographing men and their cats. At the moment she's putting together the book Men & Pussy, a collection of the unique portraits she made and is still making. Find out more about how you can participate tonight.
Sayaka Abe
After graduating from the Sandberg Instituut Sayaka has been working as a designer and illustrator. Tonight she'll talk about her work with Home-Work, in which she explores notions of (national) identity and culture.
Gareth Fitzpatrick
Taking on birdlike characteristics - above all, patience -, Gareth creates human-sized bird's nests, often suspended tens of meters up in the air. The week before this Ignite, he will start building one at Mediamatic Fabriek, and tonight he will present his work-so-far.
