Bhabha has coined a number of post-colonial neologisms and key concepts, such as hybridity, mimicry, difference and ambivalence. Such terms describe ways in which colonized people have resisted the power of the colonizer, according to Bhabha's theory.
His work in post-colonial theory owes much to post-structuralism. Notable among Bhabha's influences include Jacques Derrida and deconstruction; Jacques Lacan and psychoanalysis; and the works of Michel Foucault.
