Mediamatic Lab has built a variety of different historical social web applications where users view and contribute stories about history including Geheugen van Oost, Buurtwinkels, Nieuw Land Erfgoed and Community Joods Monument. The INNL site and the INNL network tie these projects together.
The INNL network is a place for Dutch people to write their own history. Anyone can create a profile and contribute to the collective experience of Dutch history. The sites support contributions in various forms; stories, audio clips, photographs and film. Users can add geographical and chronological information to their contributions. Thus events are linked to the location in which they occurred and the historical relationship between events are displayed.
Visitors to a site within the INNL network can log in with a profile and contribute to each site. For example, users can tell their stories on the New Land Heritage site and illustrate it with photos from the database of the NHM. Moreover, users on the Jewish Community Memorial can tag a photo on the Buurtwinkel site.
INNL The network is an example of a Web 3.0 application. Web 3.0, also called the semantic web, refers to the trend in Internet applications that are well structured, have meta-data and can easily be integrated with one another.
Awards
In April 2011, Mediamatic won the Best of the Web award in the category Innovation, during the international conference Museum and the Web in Philadelphia. Lees meer over de award.
