Lightness week 3 with Nienke Sybrandy

As a part of ‘lightness’, Nienke Sybrandy is going to blow soap bubbles all week long. Everyday this open soap bubble lab focusses on a different kind of soap bubbles. Make your own soap bubbles. Big, small, colored. And blow them through the factory. The whole week.

Program

From Wednesday May 14 to Friday May 16: Can I get into a soap bubble?

Special guests Jack Chen en Dennis Schuivens from Finesse Architecture will be building for the first time their Bubble Escapement. It's a fantastic contraption that can best be described as a swing in which you swing yourself into a soap bubble.

Wednesday May 14 : What is a soap bubble?

13:00 - 18:00

We start building a coal-gas-bubbles-machine together with artist and physicist Derk Peter de Rijk (Studio Knippen en Plakken). The goal is to create big bubbles with black smoke inside. And in general: bubbles other than soap bubbles.

Mini bubbels tijdens Lightness: Bubbleclub - A tiny bubble wanting to stay alive. During the Soap Bubble week by Nienke Sybrandy. As part of the Lightness exhibitions. Tijdens de expositie Lightness gaven 11 weken lang verschillende kunstenaars hun invulling aan het thema Lightness. De vijfde week stond in het teken van bellen blazen en werd georganiseerd door Nienke Sybrandy.

Thursday May 15: How to control a soap bubble?

Nienke & Co. start working on 3D-printed selfmade designs for soap bubble wands. Jack & Dennis, 3D-print experts are there to help you printing your own 3D-design.

14:00 - 17:00

A very special premiere: projection onto the worlds' thinnest projection film: soap bubbles.

Friday May 16: How to prolong a soap bubble?

13:00 - 18:00

Ivo van Stipthout will shoot soap bubbles with a high-speed camera.

and from 20:00 - 23:00

Bubble Club

A special bubbly party with: projection of one-minute-videos made with the images from the high speed camera, floating bubbles, glow-in-the-dark bubbles, coal gas bubbles, bubbly drinks & bubbly bites, DJ's AFROBOT and A⠁TONE with dubby bubbly records. And the opening of Bubble Escapement, the swing that will swing you into a bubble.

Saturday May 17: What can we learn from a soap bubble?

13:00 - 18:00

Leanne Wijnsma (www.escapism.cc) researches the sense and functioning of fragrances. With the human instinctual behaviour as artistic points of departure Leanne uses smell as a form of design, experimenting how it can influence our experience, decisions and choices. She will be developing special scented soap for making bubbles during Lightness.

For scented bubbles Leanne devellopes zelfmade fragrances brewed from her own garden, ranging from 'spring' till 'autum'.

Sunday May 18: Past and future of the soap bubble.

13:00 - 18:00

Nienke & Co. will remake the 17th century soap bubble, by making their own soap and soap solution first.

Lightness
