Five artists were invited to exhibit, each with a different cultural and/or ethnic background, influences of which they all incorporate in their work. The opening of the exhibition, by Almere rapper Ali B, attracted a lot of attention.
Chikako Watanabe and Samson Kambalu developed installations specially for this exhibition, and work by Shirana Shahbazi was on show for the first time. Jimmie Durham was represented in the form of works on loan from international private collections. From the Almere Collection, Remy Jungerman’s Flattened Toad Force (2000) was exhibited, placing the Collection in an international perspective. The exhibition also saw the release of the identically titled publication Black My Story.
