The exhibition of the laureates for the Young Belgian Painters Award 2009 can be viewed at the Palaix des Beaux Arts in Brussels until 13 September 2009. Caroline Pekle, researcher Fine Art, is one of the chosen participants. Pekle, praised by the jury for the "inventive and fresh character of her promising work", takes the viewer away from the Palaix, to an enormous image on the front of the Rijksadministratief Centrum. The enormous photograph, from the artist's family archive, introduces an element of poetry into the environment. It gives direction to a walk through the city, thus questioning the location of the exhibition space and living space. Back at the Palaix, at the entrance of the exhibition space, one can see the photographer drawn in pencil on the wall: a silent witness of the visitors and passers-by, and the next part of Pekle's installation: the House of Cards. Simultaneously monumental and fragile, the House of Cards refers to other forms of uncertain and nomadic existence. It is surrounded by an imaginary topography of unfolded road maps that, together with the other components of the installation, question corporal movement in reality and the gaze that wanders in an imaginary world.
