Noord

Exhibition and the first Arabic travel guide to The Netherlands.

Mediamatic invited 22 Middle-Eastern, Dutch, and Egyptian artists to explore Amsterdam-Noord. Their work has resulted in an exhibition and in the first Arabic travel guide to The Netherlands. Both will be launched on September 10th, 2010. We're celebrating with music, performances and drinks.

Exhibition and travel guide

Amsterdam-Noord serves as a pars pro toto for The Netherlands. Apart from the pivots of Dutch culture - Hema, Bakker Bart, roundabout art and cargo bikes - it houses provincial polders, conventional townhouses, and the well-known Dutch multiculturalism. But Noord is not like any other place. It is conflicting and heterogeneous, but at the same time has a strong sense of solidarity and camaraderie. It is one of the most undiscovered, and therefore exciting locations of The Netherlands.

22 artists have been living and working in Noord. Their research has resulted in an exhibition and in the first Arabic travel guide to The Netherlands. The travel guide will be distributed along with Het Parool, freeing the project from the binding art space and handing it back to the people.

Participating artists

Mahmoud Hamdy, Jan Rothuizen, Ganzeer, Foundland (Ghalia Elsrakbi, Lauren Alexander, Dirk Vis), Ayman Ramadan, Kaweh Modiri, Engy Aly, Melle Smets, Kareem Lotfy, Malkit Shoshan, Malak Helmy, Sarah van Sonsbeeck, Tunctunctunc, Ahmed Kamel, Golfstromen (Jeroen Beekmans, Joop de Boer), Wietske Maas, Lynn Amhaz, Khajag Apelian en Lara Balaa.
