International Day of Cosmonautics

With Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Delfand, and COH

12 Apr 2011

The first human, Yuri Gagarin, ascended into outer space 50 years ago on 12th April 1961, piloting the Vostok 1. Optofonica celebrates this utopian triumph with an evening devoted to the Soviet space age and the quest for weightlessness.

Presentation on Soviet Space Art

An exuberant toast will be accompanied by a flashback of the monumental mosaics and utopian icons of Soviet space art.

Sonolevitation

Microgravity performance by Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand performing Sonolevitation, an acoustic distillation during which leaves of gold defy the effects of gravity while floating on sound waves.

COH

Ivan Pavlov, aka COH further navigates the space station into the hallucinatory depths of the void above air and into the serene solitude among solar winds. COH worked with amongst others Coil and Chris & Cosey and released CD’s on Raster Noton and Mego.

Soviet Space Swing

Concluding the evening with a DJ-set of rare propulsive Soviet space swing and electronic caviar from Gagarin's era.
