Open Call: Design with Living Organisms

We are looking for artists, designers, architects and scientists to join us

Mediamatic is launching its Bio Industry Lab, an all-embracing techno-cultural lab to explore the possibilities of fungal and other bio-based materials for art, science and design. We are looking for creators to join and explore the possibilities of mycelium as a new material.

Mycelium in a Petri Dish - This is a microscopic picture of a mold growing in a petri dish. Bob Blaylock found this fungus in his bathroom and photographed it. The thread network of hyphae is the mycelium of a fungus. They make sure that the fungus gets its nutrients.

Open Call

We are looking for creators who are interested in researching new materials. Designers, artists, scientists and architects, whomever is inspired by the potential of bio-materials such as mycelium is welcome.

We offer a network of experts to exchange knowledge and ideas and the opportunity to work together with a research team of the Biology faculty of the University of Utrecht; our primary science partner. Nevertheless, other research groups, individual researchers and students are more than welcome to join.
