An author and associate professor in the Department of Culture and Communication at New York University. He has a bachelors degree in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University, and a Ph.D. in Literature from Duke University in 2001. Galloway's research interests include media theory and contemporary philosophy. Galloway is also a programmer and artist. He is a founding member of the Radical Software Group (RSG), and his art projects include Carnivore and Kriegspiel (based on a war game designed by Guy Debord).
Galloway is the author of Protocol: How Control Exists After Decentralization (MIT, 2004), Gaming: Essays on Algorithmic Culture (Minnesota, 2006), and a new book coauthored with Eugene Thacker called The Exploit: A Theory of Networks (Minnesota, forthcoming). He teaches at New York University.
