Hacking Haeckel
Open Tuesday-Sunday 12:00-19:00
Rudy Guedj, Martin Huger, Olya Troitskaya and Sophie Rogg met during their studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie where they collaborated on the visual identity for the school’s theory program in 2013. The intention of the program was to explore the field of ecology through theory and art, from history to our present-days. Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur was used within the visual identity not only as an inspiration but also as a 'canvas' to interact with.
Rudy Guedj and Sophie Rogg constructed wooden frames into which they placed the collages printed on semi-fabric paper, creating 15 lightboxes.
The lightboxes were initially used for one of the exhibitions we asked them to design the entrance of Kunstformen der Natur in the Van Gendthallen. Later, when the exhibition of 80 selected prints moved to the Radboud University Hospital in Nijmegen, the lightboxes were exhibited there too.
