Ignite
Ignite is run by locals, for locals. Fast-paced and merciless, speakers get five minutes to present, making use of twenty slides that auto-advance every fifteen seconds. All presentations are given in English.
Speakers
René Put and Rianne Petter
Graphic designers René Put and Rianne Petter studied and deconstructed a collection of 523 posters for their visual research on the medium poster. The book Poster No. 524 makes clear how a creative research process works, and is designed so that more generalized meanings about posters and visual culture become visible.
Maia Lyon Daw
The ever-esoteric Lyon Daw is a visual artist and researcher. She is behind projects like Cottage Industry Records and The Wolf, Death and the Acorn, a loosely knit collective of musicians. Most recently her focus has been on a project space in Amsterdam West, Sapphire Dice, where she organizes an exhibition series called ART IS DEAD (in the black metal sense).
Daan Beeke
Dichter Draagt Voor (poet recites) turns poems into short movies. In January 2013 they will launch 20 films during Poëzieweek (Poetry Week). Daan of Stichting Lezen (Dutch foundation for reading) will tell you about their work.
Jarrik Ouburg
Office Jarrik Ouburg is involved in a wide range of projects, varying from the scenography of exhibitions, to the redevelopment of complete neighborhoods. Jarrik, who is also the head of Architecture at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, will tell you more tonight.
Marjolijn Boterenbrood
Marjolijn will be talking about World Wide Nieuw West, a project in which she portrays entrepreneurs in Amsterdam Nieuw West. By tracing their ties, she creates an international map of the city borough, covertly turning the one-man businesses into multinationals.
Charlotte van Zanten
Charlotte wrote a book - Tokyo ohayo! (Prometheus) - based on her experiences working as a geisha in Japan. Tonight she'll show and tell us in person about life in Tokyo.
Eva Schippers
In her performances, Eva researches the notion of emergency. The performative superheroin She-Man is a literal embodiment of this notion, but her other works, such as
The Sweatshop and Five Seamstresses, explore similar ideas.
Marieke Jonker, We Want Cinema
We Want Cinema is a new initiative that allows you to book a movie at your choosing at the theatre of your choosing - as long as you can get enough other people to come along. Hear about this new start-up tonight.
Festina Lente Collective
Festina Lente Collective creates brand identities for (cultural) creatives. With a strong focus on the online sphere, FLC has worked for the likes of De Parade, The Kyteman Orchestra, PITCH, and Museumnacht.
Leonard van Munster
Leonard's work can't help but make you smile. Floating skyscrapers, a 10-meter-high LED-installation that shoots off fireworks and flashes Ik hou van je (I love you), and a robot that dances to reggae music. Leonard will reveal more.
Wouter Sibum
As a visual artist, Wouter is particularly interested in (spatial and social) design in the public space. Taking a liking to squares, circles, and other shapes, he is most fond of benches. Find out more.
Jenny Lindblom
There is something eerily hypnotic about Jenny's paintings. In 2010 she received the Koninklijke Prijs voor Vrije Schilderkunst. Find out what she has been up to since.
