Meet-a-Maker is a 30-minute session to have a one-on-one talk with artists currently working at Mediamatic. We are lucky to be inspired by the many artists who work and stay with us for exhibitions, residencies and workshops. We welcome you to meet them and be inspired as well!
About the artist
Conny Groenewegen zooms in on the issues associated with industrial production and labor processes.
Her research traces back to the origins of methods: revealing and re-establishing the sparkle of manufacturing before the fashionable took its toll. She sheds a new light on production, whilst searching for what is essential and appropriate for organizations and brands. She does so by taking away barriers, preparing reinvigorated procedures for the next step, ready to interact with the world.
After completing a study in fashion and visual art, Conny Groenewegen started making drawings. Her area of expertise is knitting. She mostly creates material using rows of interlocking loops from one continuous thread. All loops are essential; if one breaks, it creates a hole. She considers this as symbolic of interpersonal relationships: you cannot impose or force anything without causing damage. Similarly, she enters into collaborations in which she challenges and is likewise challenged. The Fashion Machine project has arisen from this philosophy and from her confrontation with fashion’s volatility and high turn-around speed.
