Christiaan de Kock at Ignite Amsterdam 15.
Christiaan is an assistant professor Integrative Neurophysiology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In his research he examines how cortical neurons encode sensory stimuli and how stimulus representation is affected by behavior. The rodent barrel cortex is an excellent system to study these questions since the individual sensory organs (facial whiskers) are represented by easily identifiable cortical columns.
In a collaboration between CNCR and Max Planck Florida, scientists (among whom De Kock) created the first realistic three-dimensional diagram of a thalamocortical column in the rodent brain.
