Niemand kan het (No One Can)

Hans Aarsman was invited by Brakke Grond to arrange an exhibition on the basis of the theatre performance Niemand kan het (No one can) of which he is the author. This former photographer, who lived and worked in Flanders, shows a collection of photographs which made him realize that "nobody can't do it". With that he wants to stimulate the visitors to look at photography in an other way.

Hans Aarsman (1951) set out as a photo journalist in 1980. In 1989 he published Hollandse Taferelen, with photos and memos of his lengthy journey through the Netherlands. Once back in his native city Amsterdam he wrote and photographed Aarsmans Amsterdam, which appeared in 1993. In 1994 he gave up photography, sold his cameras, kept writing and devoted himself to giving lectures, in which he presented an open, honest way of looking, not linked to any particular style. Every Thursday he writes a column in De Volkskrant, 'the Aarsman Collection', in which he analyses contemporary photographs down to the last pixel. He has published a novel and several plays. Apparently Aarsman is once more in possession of a camera.
