The new accommodation is a very beautiful, 113 square meters corrugated metal contraption. The shack is equipped with internet, soldering irons, random electronic stuff, a circular table chop saw, 70 laptops and 25 hackers. There are a lot of screens, coffee, oranges, RFID tags beers and chips. We are settling in very smoothly, enjoying the pond and the ducks on the back side, and the balcony and the Gashouder on the front side.
We started the day with an introduction by Willem, who told us to split up in small groups and choose between the projects we conceptualized yesterday. He also made it very clear that the smaller the group, the more resources Mediamatic would provide. Ideal groups would consist of two (or three) hackers. A small brainstorming session made clear what projects we would really (try to) develop over the coming days.
Working titles of the projects are the Friend slicer (Eric Gunther, Jeff Lieberman and Andras Sly Szalai), Ik-A-Sketch (Edwin Dertien and Neil Mendoza), Breaking the frame (Dan Paluska, Carl Emil Carlsen), Ikspeel (Mark Wubben and Eelco Wagenaar), Something with gnomes (Tijmen Schep), Iktrek/Tug-0-war (Rutger Emmelkamp, Bastiaan Ekeler and Erik Borra), Buzzy Balls (Dirk van Oosterbosch and Tim Olden) and Once upon today (Ubi de Feo and Luis Fernandez) Arjan Scherpenisse and Ralph Meijer are working on the Ikcam.
During the day conceptualizing changed into assembly. The soldering, coding and a lot of debugging took over the work floor. And sliced videos have become an overall theme.
We also got to see the venue (the Gashouder) from the inside. Right now it looks very empty and impressive. Later this week it will be changed into a corporate, Vodafone/Microsoft disco floor, with installations by us.
