Peter Schuyff was born in the Netherlands in 1958, left in 1967 and returned in 2006. He lived for most of that time in New York City. He lived at the Chelsea Hotel for his last seventeen years there.
The Woodwards got their name from a department store in Vancouver Canada called Woodward’s. It was a low rent but reliable store comparable to Hema. It was located in the heart of one of the poorest neighborhoods in North America. When Woodward’s went bankrupt in 1990 it became home to Vancouver’s vast but relatively well organized homeless population. The building has since been demolished, footage of which can be found at youtube (search: Woodward’s).
The recent performances of note by The Woodwards have mostly been in North America: The Rockwood Music Hall in New York (September 07), The Box in Vancouver Canada (September 07) and The Mandrake in Los Angeles (January 08). Footage can be found at youtube (search: The Woodwards). The Woodwards also joined the Amsterdam Singer Songwriter’s Guild for a performance at this year’s Noorderslag.
