Synaesthesia in the arts

23 Jun 2005
11 Sep 2005

An exhibition which explores the intersection of visual art and sound throughout the last century, focusing on the recurring idea that fine art should strive for the same abstract purity as music. Featured artists include the painters Kandinsky, Klee and Kupka, the photographer Alfred Stieglitz, the early and mid century experimental films of Oskar Fischinger and the Whitney Brothers, '60s and '70s pyschedelia, and contemporary installation art.

The exhibition has moved from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C, and will be on display through September 11th.
