Bike of André Leliaert (brand unknown)

This bike is 'the' example of a stayer bike, with a smaller front than back wheel. It belonged to André Leliaert, one of the better Belgian pistiers short after WW II.
This loan has been made possible by Wielermuseum Roeselare.

Leliaert was one of the best stayers (= cyclists who race behind heavy motors). Stayering is a heavy discipline that caused many deadly incidents. Its popularity has declined during the last decades; an article about stayering history in the Netherlands can be found in De Gelderlander.
