Premiere of Witnessing Gezi by Emin Özmen

A documentary film.

Finding his way through the streets of Istanbul, Özmen shows us the backside of the protests that commenced in Istanbul in May 2013, and reveals what it means to be human when the place you live is turned into a war zone, regardless of what side you are on. During the opening of 'A Day in the Park' his documentary premiered. Also, one was able to join a panel discussion on new journalism to hear more from Özmen.

Emin Özmen

Özmen is responsible for much of the development of Turkish photo journalism. He gained international recognition with his depiction of the Somalian draught and the Syrian Civil War for which he received a World Press Photo award. After his photo's repeatedly being rejected by mainstream Turkish media, he founded his own agency, Agence LeJournal. His works have been published a.o. in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, El Pais.

Location: Mediamatic Fabriek, VOC-kade 10, Oostenburg Amsterdam. Entrance free. Starts at 15:00. This screening takes place within PARK, a bottom-up exhibition and research space that explores the core concerns of the Gezi protests.
