I've been growing Schizophyllum in different lab media, to determine which medium can replace the minimal medium we use at the lab. The two main media that worked best were Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) and Sabouraud (I wanted to add a picture but I don't know how to do that!). In contrast to minimal medium these media have simple ingredients and can be made at home. The composition of the media is:
Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) (24 grams per liter):
Potato Starch (4 grams per liter) and Dextrose (20 grams per liter)
Sabouraud Dextrose Broth (30 grams per liter):
Casein (10 grams per liter) and Dextrose (20 grams per liter)
Liquid media can be made solid for agar plates by adding 15 grams of agar-agar to a liter of medium. The media has to be autoclaved before usage.
(P.S. I'll be on vacation from the 15th of July till the 30th.)
