As Disteldorp on the other side of the channel, it was originally constructed as temporary accommodation for people fleeing the decay of the city centre in the early 20th century. Construction took place according to the 'garden city idea' from across the Channel: light, single-family dwellings for workers amid green. At the end of the war, the wooden clubhouse was demolished and the timber was used for heating. After the war, the inhabitants rebuilt it with their own hands. In 1997, Vogeldorp was officially given the listed-building status.
