Astrid is a 3rd year VAV student from the Rietveld Academy, The Netherlands.
She is one of the collaborators at Mediamatic's Museum night 2022 that is focused around pigeons.
Her work relates to cohabitation and how this (widely hated) species also needs to survive and strive in the urban environment.
In her own words: "Many people are familiar with other animals, especially birds nesting in and around their homes. There are various mechanisms developed such as spikes, nets and sound annoyance to keep them away from what we perceive as our, human space. To question the tendency of keeping other animals (in this case pigeons) out of our domestic area I decided to accommodate a form of cohabitation. I provided the pigeon with a wooden box on my balcony that it could enter and exit as it pleased, but put a net around the rest of the space to keep it clean and untouched."
