with Silke Riis

6 Jul 2024

What you will do

Working with clay and nature latex: dyeing latex, mold-making in clay, latex-casting (which was the start of her clay-latex-technique). On top of that Silke will give an introduction to her practice, share inspiration and talk about experiences with working with latex. Because there is a lot of drying time there will also be time for the workshoppers if they have any other questions for the artist. You get to take your cucumber casts, clay molds and a small jar of additional latex to (continue) casting at home with you after the workshop.

Silke Riis

Silke Riis (she/her) is a Copenhagen-born sculptor and installation artist whose work currently revolves around speculative futures and imagined species. With her sculptures she hopes to reflect the fragility of ecosystems, while offering alternative ideas for the future. Her aim is not to educate on climate change, since she thinks we are way past the need for that, but instead offer composure in the fantasy of our demise.

Inspired by rainforest plants, marine invertebrates, mould formations, as well as mythologies, paracosms and science fiction, her work has an otherworldly aesthetic. She is currently based in The Hague, The Netherlands.
