ihsan al-hammouri
Ihsan Hammouri was born in ZERQA, JORDAN, in 1973. Ihsan began learning calligraphy and painting when he was a child. His zeal for art grew into a way of life and he went on to earn BFA and Masters degrees in graphic design.
In 2003, Ihsan came to the United States to pursue his Master of fine art degree (MFA)at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He began his work in San Francisco by contributing Arabic calligraphy to the first Arabic mural project in the city. During this time, he worked with well known typographers and graphic designers such as Huda Smitshuijzen Abi-Farès, Janna Anderson, April Greiman and Michael Sainato. He also led workshops on typography for many institutes and universities such as San Francisco University High School.
In 2006 he designed Insan font family* and its part of Linotype’s library (www.linotype.com).
In 2006, he established “ihsan Type Foundry” (www.ihsandesign.com). Currently he is a graphic design instructor at the design and applied art department of Yarmouk University.
