In 25 monuments, 25 photographs are extracted from opaque surroundings difficult to outline and elevated to monumental rank. These photographs are taken in Belgium and in France, in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region. But instead of celebrating one or the other fact of history, the images seem to better evidence our relationship with the past, with cult, with the means to make history! Newland presents photographs of spaces built in the last few years in five new Dutch towns. This project questions the construction of the identity of these towns. How have these cities with no History been drawn and laid out? What has been erected there? Which monuments for which celebrations? What myths do these urban landscapes carry?
