About the participating artists
Annette Behrens (GER) lives and works in Rotterdam. In 2010 she graduated from the MFA Photography Post Sint-Joost. In Behrens work ‘Perception’ is a main theme and the discrepancy that arises between the representation and interpretation of an image. How does our perception colour reality? At Hotel MariaKapel, Behrens visualized the different faces of Hoorn by exploring the romantic/nostalgic image and the image of the NOW: contemporary youth culture in Hoorn. Behrens did an intense research into this local youthculture and the way they represent themselves, also exploring the imprint of nature on the face of Hoorn.
Kimberley Meenan (UK/US) recently finished her MFA Public Art at the Bauhaus Academy in Weimar. Meenan often creates poetic interventions, in which she investigates the borders between art and religion, nature and technology. These subjects are shown in the structures of Meenans objects and interventions and their interactive character. In The Making of Now Meenan creates a new parable by using the context of the church (Chapel) and the artificial structures of greenhouses. Meenan engages us by her light and humorous play on
god.
Anique Weve (NL) lives and works in Rotterdam and is also the curator of projectstudio RUIM (Rotterdam). In Weve’s work the re-creation of social structures and relations are her main focus. In a playful manner Weve confronts us with the sell-evident structures, manners and morals of our daily lives. During Weve’s residency at HMK, she contacted youngsters who create their own world in their clubhouse. In the Chapel, Weve will build a 'shed' where she draws us into the world of youngsters in an absurd way, also showing some remarkable portraits of local youth who created their own world.
