De Brakke Grond presents new work by visual artist Koen Hauser (1972, Rijswijk). His exhibition Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen is in two parts. A space is filled with a cacophony of image and sound. Alienating images of dancing breasts, a skin condition that moves and body members in slow motion, the plasticity of our body confronts and surprises. Another space offers a place reminiscent of a chapel in a crematorium, in which our body is presented stripped of the superfluous. Male and female merge with one another to the poignant music of Mahler’s Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen.
Work can also be seen by the young Flemish photographer, Titus Simoens (1985, Ghent). His series of photographs and his video installation Haar en Hem, that he made together with Thomas Delanote and hairstylist Steven Raes, demonstrate how an immeasurable number of people can be hidden in one person. With simple alterations in clothing and hairstyle, a young man can be transformed into radically different characters.
Join the opening on 26 January at 20h00. This evening is also the opening of the festival (Exhibiting) Baroque Bodies, which the exhibition is part of. During this Opening Night there will be performances by Flemish and Dutch art students. (Exhibiting) Baroque Bodies is a festival from 26 to 29 January in de Brakke Grond about lust, erotica, theatricality, transgression and baroque sensuality.
