Along the banks of the IJ is a sort of hangar-like greenhouse. It is the café and restaurant Noorderlicht. This is where the creative Noord people drink, dine and dance. Noorderlicht has the feeling of a beach joint in the city, with bean bags and tables and chairs scattered across the lawn. Both the inside chimney and outside campfire create a carefree atmosphere reminiscent of the hippy festivals of the sixties. Dance parties are organized on a regular basis here, too.

Noorderlicht - Most people of Amsterdam have small houses, without a garden or balcony. When the wheather is nice, cafes give an offer hard to refuse: reading a book, whole day long, with service of good food and cold drinks. Willem Velthoven
