Vergroot

Spain - Made during the Art & Research Eurolab week at Umberto Schwab's place in Spain.

Four groups formed organically from the 18 students who started the program in November 2009. Their research interests are:

Social Spaces

In what way have space and the experience of space changed, and in what way do these changes ask for a rethinking of the methods, tools and aims of modern cartography? Which notion of space is most adequate for understanding and navigating contemporary spatial formations? These questions formed the basis of four different research projects that are shown at the Basisburo.

The Death of Language

The self-referential text represents for us a dead text; as the text doesn't communicate anything outside itself. We began naively talking about how we could kill language. We looked into language itself to provide us with literal metaphors; such as 'un', which denies the word that comes after. But unsurprisingly, language survived and moreover, with every attempt to kill, something new flourished.

Can one take the top of(f) a mountain?

On 10-10-10 the highest point of Holland shifted from Vaals to Saba, due to the Netherlands Antilles being dissolved. Two locations almost 10.000 kilometers apart share a nationality. What does this mean? Join us for the launch of the new map of Holland, watch our documentary trailer, and visit our talk show. We'll speak with 4 guests who have helped us along the way: Alexander Dalenoort, Francio Guadeloupe, Jan Robert Leegte and Diederik Oostdijk.

Concentric Castles

Researching memory should, according to us, always start with the organism; whether it be a society, a group, the physical environment, an archive, the body or neurons. We believe the basis to be information processing: the ability to encode, store, and retrieve information. Everyone has a unique vision of the world as much as all researchers have their own perspective on the field of memory. Thus, our research has taken the form of an exercise in bringing together different perspectives.
