On Sunday August 21 experimental audiovisual hackers LoVid will lead a workshop where you will build the Circuit Taco, a device that converts electrical signals from your body’s surface into signals that are suitable for controlling other electronic instruments. During the workshop you will assemble the sensor hardware from a custom printed circuit board using some simple soldering, and create a casing for the electronics using recycled materials. Following this we will have a discussion and instruction session explaining to you how the electronics work. Once everyone understands the technology and has their Circuit Tacos operational, we will connect our new sensor instruments up to other electronic devices such as sound and video synthesizers.
Once our Circuit Tacos are hooked up, we will rehearse together and give a collaborative audio-visual performance at a public fiesta in the evening. If you have any synthesizer components that can accept a control voltage bring them along for use in the performance. If you don't have any control voltage devices don't worry, additional synthesizer modules will be provided for those who don’t have them.
Materials costs will be €15 (included in the workshop fee); materials provided will include electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, and chips (also non-electronic chips, with salsa!) as well as the printed circuit boards. Additional recycled construction materials for casing will be provided, including cardboard and colorful fabric.
