Layered and forceful. This is the least you could say of the alternative, electro-acoustic and highly infectious folk-rock of Amsterdam’s Avant la Lettre. Their unsettling brand of pop music has been bringing them deserved attention for a little while. Their debut album is expected early in 2012, but you can see them live now at the Sonic Soirée.

With their second album, As if we were dancing, Yuko have come up with a marvellous, downright poppy record. Rarefied vocals set against big arrangements and surprising twists are their stock-in-trade. Dance music for in the bedroom, as they call it themselves. Perfectly suited, therefore, to an intimate Sonic Soirée.
