Contemporary art meets legendary music for anniversary show

11 apr 2012

ArTicks Gallery, the underground contemporary art gallery and consultancy on the Singel canal in Amsterdam, is celebrating its first anniversary in style. On Wednesday 11th April 2012, singer and guitarist Blondie Chaplin plays a free semi-acoustic set at Susie’s Saloon on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, organized and presented by ArTicks Gallery as a gesture of gratitude to the locals who have helped make the gallery a success.

Blondie Chaplin

The chances are good that you have heard the masterful guitar work and rich, smooth voice of Blondie Chaplin before, even if his name is unfamiliar. Originally from Durban, South Africa, his musical career became international in the early 70s when he became a member of the Beach Boys and sang lead vocals on several songs, including the much-covered ‘Sail On, Sailor’.

Blondie went on to join The Band as a guitarist and vocalist, and since the 1990s has toured multiple times with the Rolling Stones, beginning with the ‘Bridges To Babylon’ tour. Unsurprisingly for a musician of this pedigree, he has also released three solo albums and continues to play shows around the world. Blondie has visited the Netherlands numerous times and has cited Amsterdam as ‘one of my favourite places. I always love it when I’m here’.

Showtime!

A dynamic, charming and still down-to-earth performer, Blondie Chaplin is equally at home in giant arenas and small, intimate venues such as Susie’s Saloon. The show begins at 20:30 but, as entrance is free and space is limited, fans are advised to arrive early!
