With a formalist language, Zigor Barayazarra's work is framed by the dialectic between construction and deconstruction of the different signs and codes, with the aim of situating them at the limits of representation. With a background based in digital drawing linking up with Pop and Minimalist tradition, in his last projects, he attempts to articulate drawings and objects and their relation within the space they occupy. His pieces are development constructions for specific places, which he then documents in photographs. He regards art as a means to declare dissatisfaction and discontinuity and he creates interventions to amplify meaning. Therefore he usually works with cheap and rudimentary materials and through an analysis of the signs all around us, publicity hoardings and traffic signs, he will propose confrontations, poetically an ironically, with other natural models.
His works mix the intensity of a child that got itself bashed in the face with a research revolving around the socialization of human beings and their immersion in the inhabited space, the micro-macro structures, weird bodies, the fear, uselessness, the sublime or deconstructivism when applied to work. He tries to articulate materials and forms, creating installations that have multiple meanings as well as an inherent power of meaning; therefore Zigor pursues experimentation with materials in order that they may assume a symbolism of their own context.
During the first part of his presentation at Het Wilde Wetten, he will show his past works on the web and with the Drone collective. The last part of the presentation will be targeted towards two of his current projects: Trace (2007) and Flag (2007). Flag will be shown for the first time in Rotterdam at TENT at the end of May.
As an artist working with new technologies, Sofian Audry strives to intertwine the technical with the poetical, the machine with the living. His main strategy is one of technology hijacking: its objective is to give insight and propel the renewal of cultural codes. He mostly interested in how our media, language and cultural processes shape, through time, our relation with the world, the other, and the self. His recent work has been focused on art pieces that modify themselves through time. He is interested in the spectator leaving an imprint on a unique canvas. By doing so, interaction happens through time: the spectator takes an active part in a deferred expressive process. Sofian Audry puts a frame around that process, he give it rules, so as to give a direction, a certain shape, to that expression.
A representative artist in her generation in Hungary, she finished her studies at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts at the intermedia and painting department. As a member of the FKSE committee (Young Artist Organization of Hungary) she organized several artistic events, such as the ?studio+?, an open studios program and conference,? and a symposium related to the teaching of Art History at the university together with the faculty of Art History at ELTE.) After finishing a postgraduate program in 2004 at HISK in Belgium, she was invited to participate in the Research in Residency program at the BAK (Basis voor Actuelle Kunst) in Utrecht (NL). She gained her artistic recognition as a participant in international group shows and film festivals. Currently doing a residency program at the Duende Artist Studios in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This year she is participating at the Prague Biennale.
Her interest lies to create sites of interactions, examining as well art?s capacity to encounter its environment. In her latest projects she is working with narratives that stage social interactions and performative interventions in urban spaces, observing different artistic positions and the role culture have in society. Her artistic practice is centered around the different aspects of identity considering it as a site for social and political constructions.
