The institute was started in 2007 . This initiative was created by Bibeck (Frank & Geert) from the Netherlands.
There is virtually no media industry in Arusha. There are many foreign programs on TV, but most of the programming doesn’t reflect the reality of the common Tanzanian. KFI works with 5 local community-based organizations from which it finds their students.
United Broadcast Facilities from the Netherlands provides the training and equipment for the school. This is done as part of their corporate social responsibility program.
From January 2009, more training partners are envisaged to take part. Medeva TV from Kenya, IDTV from Nl and HKU (A Dutch University).
KFI also collaborates with Nairobits Trust from Kenya.
