Julian Jones

Julian started out as a feature film runner and BBC documentary researcher before getting his directing break on music magazine and list shows featuring some of the world’s biggest names in Hip Hop, Rock, Metal and Dance music. He then switched to Motorsport, spending 18 months travelling the world Directing for the World Rally Championship.

In 2003 Julian made his first documentary ‘The Curse of Blue Peter’”. A warm and irreverent tribute to the famous British kid’s TV show, the film was a huge success for Channel 5 and launched Julian as an in-demand Director for the UK terrestrial market.

In 2006 Julian made his first documentary for US television. “How William Shatner Changed the World” that saw the legendary USS Enterprise Captain examine how the science fiction of Star Trek has influenced the real world of science. The film was nominated for 2 Primetime EMMY Awards, 3 GEMINI Awards, A Royal Television Society Award, a Grierson Award and a CINE Golden Eagle.

Since then Julian has continued to create ambitious, unique and groundbreaking specialist factual films for a global audience. Highlights include “The Great Sperm Race” which imagined the journey of conception scaled up to human size and was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award, a World Television Festival Award and three Canadian GEMINI Awards. "Can You Live Forever?' saw ‘Mythbusters’ Adam Savage transformed into a 1000 year old man and earned an EMMY Award nomination. Julian’s first foray into both 3D and cinema with the experimental drama-doc ‘Inside the Mind of Leonardo” starred Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi as Leonardo Da Vinci winning a International 3D Society Award, Rose D’or and Royal Television Society nominations and a Grierson Award shortlist.

In 2015 Julian directed his first full scripted drama, a feature length episode of the BAFTA winning crime series ‘Hinterland”. The episode will air early 2016 on BBC4, S4C, BBC1 (Wales) & Netflix in the US.

Julian is from Wales and resides with his wife and children in London, England.
