Installation about the physical and mental distance between Amsterdam and Amsterdam Noord. During the summer in Noord Mahmoud Hamdy focused on the relationship between Noord and Amsterdam Centrum. By focusing on the social and cultural history of Noord, he came to realize that the distance between Noord and the city center isn't so much a physical distance, but a psychological one.
He visualised this in a corner with paintings on the wall: lines and important historical dates of events. Over this he projected a video with moving borders between Noord and the center of Amsterdam. In this way he showed the relationship dynamics. Gedurende de zomer heeft Mahmoud Hamdy zich gericht op de afstand tussen het stadscentrum van Amsterdam en Noord. Door zich te storten op zowel de sociale als de culturele geschiedenis van Amsterdam, kwam hij tot de conclusie dat deze afstand niet zozeer fysiek is, maar vooral mentaal. Hij verbeeldde dit in een donkere hoek met schilderingen op de wand van lijnen en belangrijke historische gebeurtenissen. Daaroverheen projecteerde hij een video met bewegende grenzen tussen Noord en Amsterdam. Hierdoor werd de stilstand en beweging van de relatie zichtbaar.
